The 411 on Varicose Veins

Are you dealing with pain in your legs and feet especially after standing for long periods of time? Have you noticed that the veins on your legs and feet are starting to look a little more purple in tone and are bulging out a bit more than usual? If so, you may be suffering from varicose veins. Read on to learn more about varicose veins and how they can be treated.

What Are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are swollen, and twisted veins that are primarily caused by things such as genetics, excess weight, pregnancy, old age, trauma, and lack of movement. Caused by leaky valves, varicose veins can not only be a bit unsightly as far as appearance goes but they can also sometimes cause you a bit of pain and can even result in blood clots if left untreated, especially after you stand on your feet all day long.

Varicose Vein Treatment
Luckily, at Atlas Vein Care we know that although varicose veins aren’t exactly detrimental to your overall health, they can be more than uncomfortable and annoying. As the first step in treating varicose veins, we usually encourage our patients to try wearing compression stockings. Compression stockings can be purchased at a drugstore or pharmacy and work to reduce symptoms that are causing you both pain and annoyance.

Additionally, through a treatment called microphlebectomy, your varicose veins can be removed and treated. During this safe, in-office procedure, tiny incisions will be made and a local anesthetic will be applied. Once the incisions are made, the varicose veins will be removed. Because the incisions used are so tiny, there are no sutures or stitches required. And, because this treatment is permanent, your veins will never come back, which means that you can kiss those pesky veins goodbye.
